About DrupalCon 2025 in Vienna
This year’s conference returns to the beautiful city of Vienna, hosted at the Austria Center Vienna. The four-day event begins with General Contribution Day, followed by the traditional Driesnote, and continues with three full days of sessions across seven tracks:
- Agency & Business,
- Coding & Site Building,
- Community Health,
- Clients & Industry Experiences,
- Drupal CMS,
- InfoSec & DevOps,
- Open Web.
But DrupalCon isn’t just about talks. It’s also about doing, learning, and connecting. Attendees can join contribution sprints, take part in first-time contributor workshops, or get hands-on help in mentored contribution sessions. The Drupal in a Day seminar offers a complete introduction to the platform, while the Women in Drupal Award and social events add a human touch to the conference atmosphere.
Spotlight on key sessions – what awaits attendees
Here are the most compelling sessions that caught our attention from the DrupalCon program.
Keynotes and community highlights
The conference opens on Tuesday, 14 October, with the traditional Driesnote. Drupal’s founder, Dries Buytaert, will share his perspective on the current state of the platform and where it’s heading next. His keynote always sets the tone for the event, combining reflection, vision, and inspiration for everyone in the Drupal ecosystem.

Another major highlight is Drupal CMS Spotlights, featuring leaders such as Bálint Kléri, Kristen Pol, Elliott Mower, Yolanda Górriz, Pierre Dureau, Giorgi Jibladze, and Gábor Hojtsy. This panel will give a behind-the-scenes look at how Drupal is evolving — from Drupal Canvas (formerly Experience Builder) to AI integration and design systems. For agencies wanting to stay ahead of platform developments, this is the session to attend.
The Agency & Business track
For digital agencies, one of the most relevant talks will be SEO in the Age of AI Search: What’s Really Changing (and What’s Not) by Hristiyan Myankov. With AI reshaping how search engines deliver results, this session will show how to adapt SEO strategies while staying grounded in proven fundamentals.
From a project management angle, Taming the Beast: Navigating Scope Creep for Project Success by Nina Holzapfel tackles a challenge every agency knows well. Scope creep can derail timelines, blow budgets, and cloud project goals. Expect practical advice for keeping projects on track when client requirements evolve.
Drupal CMS innovation
A milestone moment comes with Drupal Canvas Unleashed: The Future of Drupal Is Here by Lauri Timmanee and Bálint Kléri. This session celebrates the release of Drupal Canvas 1.0, now production-ready. Attendees will hear from the people who helped shape it and learn how Canvas changes the way we build Drupal sites.
Continuing the Canvas theme, Designing with Purpose: How to Integrate Your Features into Drupal Canvas by Renee Lund will explore how to extend this new paradigm without compromising usability or performance.
Technical excellence and DevOps
For teams focused on automation and deployment, GitHub Actions + Docker + Cypress = CI/CD Nirvana by Marji Cermak will showcase practical approaches to building secure and repeatable deployment pipelines.
On the infrastructure side, Kubernetes-Powered Drupal: Architecting Scalable, Resilient Web Experiences by Paulo Carvalho will dive into how Kubernetes can help teams create scalable, self-healing environments — an increasingly critical topic as website performance directly impacts business outcomes.
And for anyone who’s ever wrestled with Composer, Top 10 Composer Problems in Drupal Projects: Solutions from Real-World Sites by Mohammad Zomorodian offers real-world troubleshooting tips for cleaner, safer, and more maintainable projects.
Client success stories at DrupalCon 2025
For those interested in real-world use-cases, Nestlé Nutrition Scalable Multibrand Design System on Drupal by Bastien Chanot and Olga Tsiamliak showcases how large enterprises run complex, multi-brand Drupal implementations. This case study provides valuable insights into managing scalable design systems and enterprise-level requirements.
Another must-see case study, From CMS to Platform: How to Build Future-Proof Digital Ecosystems with Drupal by Lukas Fischer, explores how organizations can evolve Drupal from a content management system into a flexible digital platform that grows with business needs.
Open web and community
For those passionate about open source, The Art of Doing Less: Let the Community Code Your Module by James Shields is all about collaboration. It’s a thoughtful look at how to encourage community contributions and build stronger projects together. This session perfectly reflects the Drupal spirit.
Contribution events and workshops at the DrupalCon 2025
DrupalCon Vienna 2025 offers plenty of ways to get involved. Multiple General Contribution Days throughout the week allow developers, designers, and project managers to work directly on Drupal core and contributed modules. These meetups truly capture what open source is about: building together.
The First-Time Contributor Workshop on Friday is ideal for newcomers, with experienced mentors guiding attendees through their first contributions. And the Mentored Contribution sessions help both new and experienced contributors collaborate effectively. Finally, the Drupal in a Day seminar provides a hands-on introduction to the platform, complete with certification for participants.
